Cecret Lake

This Saturday we did the hike to Cecret Lake.  We've tried to do this hike once before, but it was too cold.  This weekend was just perfect.  It was still warm, but so much cooler than it was in the valley.  We drove up above Alta and they said there was a shuttle that would take you to the trailhead.  The line to the shuttle was pretty long, but this guy who worked up there said you could actually walk to the trailhead.  It added probably a half-mile onto the hike, but it was well worth it.  There were literally fields of wildflowers that were blooming.  It was gorgeous.

This hike was definitely one of the most beautiful hikes that we have done.  The Albion basin is just beautiful with the surrounding mountains and the wildflowers.

The hike wasn't terribly difficult.  It was a steady incline and probably about 3 miles in and back.  Before we went hiking, Eric packed our backpacks and got the water ready to go.  About halfway through the hike up, my water started acting really funny.  The tube almost acted like it was cramped somewhere and I couldn't get very much water out at a time.  I told Eric and he adjusted the tube.  It helped a little bit, but the problem persisted.  At this point, Eric asked me if the tube was supposed to be at the bottom of the backpack or the top.  Turns out, he put the hydration sleeve upside down. The best part was he pulled out the sleeve to put it in the right way and the water came unclipped and got both he and the backpack soaking wet.  It was good the hike wasn't terribly long because I was able to share Eric's water and it lasted us until we finished the hike.  Overall, it was pretty funny.

The hike ended at Cecret Lake.  The ascent to the top was surprisingly crowded.  Turns out this hike is very popular this time of year (no surprise because it was gorgeous!).  I even saw two moms with children under about 4 months - craziness!

We spent a few minutes at the top admiring the lake and eating some trail mix before heading back down.  Towards the bottom of the hike, we saw a moose!  I had never seen a moose before and it was huge.

Overall, I would definitely do this hike again.  It wasn't too hard, it was short, and it was beautiful!
