Farewell NYC

Saturday was our final day in New York City. We didn't have much planned and in New York, there is always plenty to do. It was a beautiful day - sunny, bright, and 82 degrees. We got up and grabbed a classic New York breakfast - omelets, potatoes, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Then we walked around the city enjoying all the things that make New York such a great place. I snapped a few pictures to try to capture the feeling of the day.

We love the Met's slogan - "I'm glad we MET"

Central Park was so beautiful

We saw lots of turtles around central park

Our first and last stop of the trip was Grand Central
Blake and Debbie were running errands so after breakfast Alison and I went over to a street fair on the Avenue of the Americas. The last time we came to New York with Blake and Debbie we went to a similar street fair and I bought some dress socks that I love. I found the same dress socks at a booth this time - they are so comfortable and they are really inexpensive. Who knew you can find the best dress socks from a street vendor in Manhattan.

Next, we wandered over to Rockefeller Center. It is such a nice area. We sat down and enjoyed being in the center. We also talked about our November trip when we will be coming to see the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall and go ice skating. We are so excited.

We met up with Blake and Debbie and walked up 5th avenue toward the park. We walked past all the big stores American Girl (Alison can't wait to go there in November with Debbie, Kristin, and Skylee), Tiffany's, Orvis, and of course the Apple Store. Then we jumped on the subway and headed up by the Guggenheim.

The one thing we had planned today was a trip to the Guggenheim. When we arrived we were very disappointed. We found out the main exhibit is under construction and is inaccessible. They had a few small exhibits still open, but we decided to try to come back in November. We saw the spiral ramps, but that was the part of the museum which was closed.

Since the Guggenheim was closed our day was wide open. We crossed the street and wandered through Central Park. It was such a beautiful day in September to be walking around the park.

We got some more NY pizza for lunch before grabbing a cab to JFK and saying goodbye to the city. This was my favorite trip to NYC. It was unbelievable in every way. It is always hard to say goodbye to the city - we will miss it. Good thing we will be back for Thanksgiving. I can't wait.
