A little recognition

I have received some feedback that I don't always share my accomplishments. It is true. I try not to toot my own horn. I did want to share some articles I found recently that talk about a scholarship I was awarded.

1. 10 accounting students receive 2014-2015 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship

Excerpt: The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has announced the 10 recipients of the 2014-2015 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship, annually presented to both undergraduate and graduate-level accounting students pursuing their CPA license who have displayed academic excellence and leadership. Each recipient will receive a $2,500 award for the academic year.

The 2014-2015 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship recipients are listed below (in alphabetical order):

Matthew Adams – University of Wisconsin (Eau Claire)
Tanyeka Alexander – University of Baltimore
Guadalupe Cotto – Roosevelt University
Jenna Durnell – Southwest Baptist University
Zachary Haveman – University of Denver
Jessica Huang – Santa Clara University
Anthony Jakubowski – The University of Akron
Jacob Persky – University of Kentucky
Brooke Stout – Boise State University
Eric Troff – University of Utah

“On behalf of the AICPA, I applaud this year’s recipients of the AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship for their commitment to academic achievement,” stated Joanne Fiore, AICPA vice president of professional media, pathways, and inclusion. “These exceptional students are a testament to the strength of the pipeline of talent coming into the accounting profession.”

2. 10 Students to Watch in the Accounting Profession

Excerpt: Accountemps has partnered with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) to provide $2,500 scholarships to outstanding students pursuing a degree in an accounting-related major. From nearly 1,200 applicants, 10 honorees were recently selected based on academic achievement, leadership activities, and a commitment to becoming a licensed CPA professional.

The higher demand and lower unemployment rate for many accounting positions today mean greater opportunities for those entering the profession. We asked our 2014-2015 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship recipients about why they chose an accounting career path and their plans after graduation. Here’s what they said:

Eric Troff, University of Utah: “My first accounting professor recognized I had a talent for accounting. She would always tell me in class that I should consider majoring in accounting. At first, I dismissed the idea, but by the end of the semester, I knew accounting was for me.”

Congratulations to this year’s accounting scholarship recipients! We wish them all the best in their accounting career pursuits and look forward to their future contributions to the profession.

These articles discuss the AICPA Accountemps Student Scholarship. It really helped as Alison and I paid for my master's degree. The scholarship was a big deal. Only two students in the state of Utah even received a scholarship from the AICPA.
