Baseball at the Big A

Yesterday was our last day in Carlsbad. We really did not do too much for the first part of the day. We slept in again. For breakfast we made crepes. We ate them with fresh strawberries our friends picked from the fields by our hotel, bananas, and Nutella. They were delicious.

After breakfast, we went down and relaxed by the pool. We have really enjoyed the resort. It was probably the nicest place we have ever stayed on vacation. The pool was way fun. Before this trip, I bought a wet bag for my phone so I could take it to the beach and pool without worrying about it getting wet. It was a great purchase. We took some great pictures in the pool and ocean.

In the middle of the day, we went to a Hilton timeshare presentation. We signed up because they offered to pay for a large part of our meal at the Chart House (which was such a great experience it was definitely worth it.) The pitch ended up taking longer than we hoped. It was a head-in-the-vice experience and we left less interested in a timeshare than when we started.

Next, we drove down to a beach in Oceanside. We could see the pier from the beach in Carlsbad and we wanted to check it out. The beach there was pretty cool it had a playground built right on the beach and a bunch of fire pits. We walked down the pier. They had a Ruby's on the pier so Alison and I got a grilled cheese. It wasn't quite as good as the ones we had in Anaheim. On the pier, there were these pelicans that were just sitting there. You could walk right up to them and they wouldn't move.

The big event of the day was attending the LA Angel's game. It was about a 90-minute drive (with crazy LA traffic.) We got to the stadium with plenty of time so we grabbed dinner before the game. Jake and Meg told us about this place we had to try, Chronic taco. It was a great recommendation.

The game was great. It was our first time at Angel's stadium. The stadium is huge, it just feels massive. Alison kept score. It was a tight game through 7 innings.  Both starters were great and the game was tied 2-2.  In the 8th inning, the Rockies brought in Bettencourt and he gave up 3 runs.  The Angels won 5-2.  The poor Rockies just can't catch a break.

The Angel's first baseman Mark Krauss was called up that day from SLC. We saw him play a few times this year for the bees.

The game was a lot of fun.  They had fireworks during the National Anthem and again when the Angels won.  There was a lot of energy in the stadium.  We were so glad we made it to a game.

We got home late and then woke up early this morning to pack up and hit the road.  During the drive, we made great time and made it from Carlsbad to St. George without stopping.  We ate and got gas in St. George and then continued onto West Jordan.  We listened to the Freakonomics podcast on our way home and stayed mostly entertained.  It wasn't a terrible drive.  I'm not in a hurry to do it again, but I would probably do it for a relaxing weekend again.  Carlsbad is very likely our new getaway place.
