Here's to Las Vegas

Today was a good day. With the George Strait concert, we were out really late last night. We ended up sleeping in pretty late. It was well past 10am this morning before we rolled out of bed, and almost noon by the time we got ready and out for the day.

We met Blake and Debbie in the lobby and wandered the Miracle Mile shops looking for a place to eat. We found a Mexican place that was serving breakfast (it was perfect because some members of our party wanted breakfast and some wanted Mexican.) The food was good and there was plenty. After such a huge breakfast we all wanted to walk it off.

We found Kristin and Dan doing some shopping on the Miracle Mile. They still had some more places they wanted to check out. Blake suggested we head over to the Venetian so we decided to head that way. We meandered down the strip crossing the street so that we could stop and see the fountains at the Bellagio. The fountains are easily one of our favorite things to see on the strip.

Our walk to the Venetian continued. It is amazing how long it takes to walk along the strip. It always seems like things are closer together, but it is deceptively long. Once we arrived at the Venetian we browsed the Grand Canal Shops. There is a memorabilia shop we wanted to go in, but Mike Tyson was there making a public appearance and it was packed, so we decided to pass. We spent quite a bit of time at the Peter Lik gallery. He has a few shops around Vegas. Alison and I really enjoy his style of photography. It feels like you could walk right into his pictures. He has quite a few from Utah and New York, which are both places we love.

We couldn't pass up getting some gelato at the Venetian. We found a bench in the grand hall area to rest our feet and enjoy a few scoops of gelato. We had quite a variety - almond pecan, watermelon, and raspberry. They were all very good.

We continued our wanderings and ended up in Bauman's Rare Books. This was a pretty cool store. They had some amazing books. There was a very nice employee who showed us around. It seemed like he really enjoyed telling us about the history and significance of each item. One of the most interesting things they had in the store was a 2nd edition of the Book of Mormon.

We were ready to head back toward our hotel. On our way, we stopped by the forum shops at Cesar's Palace. We wanted to check out the memorabilia shop here. What would you know - Mike Tyson was at this one, too. It was unbelievable - we thought maybe they hired a bunch of doubles. This one wasn't quite as crowded so we decided to go in and check out the baseball stuff. I always love looking at the items they have on display. I would never buy anything from a memorabilia shop in Vegas, though, because they are way overpriced. It is fun to look at.

By the time we got back to the hotel we were tired of walking so Alison and I changed into our swimsuits and headed down by the pool. The pool here is beautiful. We enjoyed lounging in the sun for an hour before it was time to get ready for dinner.

We changed into our dinner clothes, placed a quick bet on tomorrow's Yankees game, and headed to the MGM. Since it is Alison's birthday on Monday I made reservations at Emeril's Fish House to celebrate. It is our absolute favorite place to eat in Vegas. We had the best time and the food was amazing. Alison read the menu and immediately knew what she wanted - the crab stuffed shrimp. She is a sucker for shellfish. I got the bigeye tuna - it was delicious. Dessert was the best part though. We got a sample that included bread pudding, banana cream pie (the best thing ever), and pecan pie. They also gave Alison a little bowl of sorbet for her birthday - that was nice. Alison was a little hesitant because she doesn't normally like bread pudding, but after one bite she ended up liking the bread pudding more than I did. The service was exceptional - We love that Emeril's always serves everyone at the table at the same moment. It is a simple thing that really demonstrates how exceptional the service is.

After dinner, we had tickets to see KA. It is a Cirque Du Soleil. The show was really interesting. The music, acrobatics, and stage really made it stand out. The stage was easily the most amazing part. It changed so much throughout the show. At times it would be completely vertical with performers flying around it. The things they do are unreal. It was a fun way to end the night.
