Happy 5-year Anniversary

June started off with a very busy weekend. On Friday night we celebrated our 5-year anniversary. It has flown by so quickly. It has honestly been the very best 5-years of my life. Together we have built a marriage full of faith, family, friends, adventure, and academic and professional achievement. As we celebrate these first five years I am so excited for what the future will bring. Five years down and forever to go!

Our trip to Kauai was our big 5-year celebration so we kept Friday night fairly low-key. On Thursday I did bake a cake. It was a multilayer chocolate peanut butter cake, which I made from scratch. It was a lot of work to make - it turns out great. I am pretty proud of the result.

We both worked on Friday. After we got off work we headed downtown to Temple Square. We walked around the temple reminiscing about our wedding. This has become one of our favorite anniversary traditions.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the New Yorker. It was our first time eating there. I had heard good things and decided to give it a try. It is a very modern, swanky restaurant. The seating was very intimate and provided a nice setting for an anniversary dinner. When we arrived there was a nice happy anniversary card sitting on our table. The food was excellent. Alison had the halibut and I got the lamb shank, both of which came with risotto - yum!

After dinner, we headed back to our apartment. We watched our wedding video and all of our year-in-review slideshows. It was fun to reminisce on all of the great times we have shared. We do this every year and it has become one of our favorite anniversary traditions.

The weekend did not slow down after our anniversary celebration. On Saturday we woke up and ate some of our delicious cake for breakfast. Then we met Kyle, Sarah, and their boys at the Bountiful airport to attend an air show. We didn't even know there was a Bountiful airport before Saturday. It was a pretty small show, but it was fun to see the small planes, and the little boys loved it. There were a couple of skydivers who landed at the airport during the show.

It was a really hot day and there was no shade at the airshow so we found a place to grab lunch and get out of the sun. After eating some lunch we headed over to Bountiful park, which was really a neat park (and as a bonus had tons of huge shady trees.) We spent the afternoon outside enjoying the opportunity we had to spend time with our friends.

Alison and I ran home to change our clothes before we headed downtown. We volunteered to help out at Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY). It is a huge black-tie event that my firm, EY, puts on every year. They invite well over 1,000 guests. Alison and I helped usher guests. We were assigned to stand by some elevators and make sure people were headed in the right direction. After we helped out we got to enjoy dinner. It was a really swanky event. It is quite the production.

We didn't stay too long after dinner because we wanted to the South Jordan Country Fest. We met up with Blake and Debbie and headed over. We heard Leann Rimes was going to be performing and thought that it sounded fun. We ended up being a little late, but we had no trouble finding a seat on the grass. Leann Rimes sure can sing. We really enjoyed the concert. Afterward, there was a great firework show. We stood out on the grass listening to great music and watching fireworks and it was just a fun time.
