Happy Independence Day!

Alison and I had a fantastic 4th of July weekend this year. We both had Friday off work so we headed down to the Ivory Homes design center on Friday morning. We were scheduled for an orientation meeting, where they got us acquainted with the design center setup and some of the options we could have in our home. Debbie, Dan, and our real estate agent, Jane, were kind enough to come with us. They gave us some great input. After our orientation, Dan went with us to Daybreak to show us around some of the houses he has helped build with Rainey Homes. It was so helpful to be able to see some of the features and items we may want to include in our home.

In the afternoon, we caught a ride with Jake and Meg to Flaming Gorge. We have camped there with Alison's family for the past 4 years. This year we switched it up and stayed on the Dutch John side. We really liked staying on this side of the gorge. It was much greener and the campground had a lot of shade - we did miss seeing the antelope wandering around Lucerne. This side of the lake was a lot prettier as well.

Camping this weekend was delightful. Some of the highlights include:

Sleeping in - Alison and I took advantage of the weekend away to sleep in every day. It has been a while since the last time we were able to sleep in as late as we wanted. We really enjoyed it. Alison even took advantage of a lazy afternoon to take a nap. It was really nice to be able to relax.

Boating - We went boating both days. Alison got out on the water skis. It has been 3 years since her last time out on them. She really enjoyed it and wants to go again soon. She also rode around on the tube with Meg. I was content to cruise around on the boat. I really enjoyed laying out at the front of the boat.

Hanging out at the trailer - Blake and Debbie's trailer makes a great home base when we camp. Blake had his satellite set up so one day while Kristin, Alison, and Debbie were napping we watched the Yankees game. It was fun to sit around watching the game. There haven't been very many games I have watched or listened to this year, where I wasn't multitasking. It was nice to sit back and watch.

Watching fireworks - Dutch John put on a firework show on Saturday night. It was a long show. Most of the time they would only shoot off one firework at a time. Our group got split in half when Jake, Meg, Dan, and I weren't able to find everyone else. We wandered down to the school and had a great view of the show. We could see the area where they were shooting the fireworks. I really enjoyed watching the fireworks from take off to explosion. There were some really cool fireworks.

Hiking - there was an overlook trail right near our camp that we hiked a couple of times. It was a nice easy trail that led to a beautiful view of the gorge. On our way there the first time we played a game Jake made up using wrist rockets. The second time we took the whole family and set up hammocks.

On Monday we packed up and came home. Flaming Gorge is quite the drive. It was well into the evening by the time we got back and unpacked. Alison and I headed over to my grandparents to catch a little bit of their 4th of July party. We were hoping to see our newest niece, Parker, but Charly had just got her to sleep before we arrived. We visited with family for a bit before taking off. We headed out to Daybreak to walk around our future neighborhood. We learned we will live really close to a Trax station and that no fireworks are allowed in Daybreak (yippee). We saw a few things we liked that will help as we make decisions about the exterior of our home. Then it was time to come home so Alison could do a bit of homework before we went to bed. It was a great 4th of July weekend.

Happy Independence Day!
