Waiting...

Overall, September has been a slow, quiet month. We hoped we would hear something about our house, but we weren't really surprised that we haven't heard anything. Our architect told us the best-case scenario is they start construction near the end of September. The more likely scenario always was that construction would start in October. In the meantime, we just keep waiting.

Alison and I were talking the other day about waiting. There are certainly benefits to waiting. Living with Blake and Debbie has been great. They have been welcoming in every way. Waiting also gives us a chance to save more and prepare for the future. Our discussion, however, was more about how this period of waiting really feels like limbo. Particularly because this is the permit phase so there are no tangible indications of when the waiting period will be over. During the summer we went through the craziness of planning the details of our house. This period of quiet waiting feels even more likely to drive us crazy. We are anxious for them to start the construction process.

While our house has been at a standstill during the month of September our lives have not. Alison was particularly busy with her MBA program. In her previous semesters, she would have class two nights a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6pm-10pm. It was challenging, but manageable. This semester (which started in mid-August) Alison had the opportunity to take some elective classes. In order to take the classes that were at the top of the wish list, she had classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6pm-10pm. This schedule does not sound that much more difficult, but it was brutal. The past five weeks have easily been the most difficult of Alison's master's program. Fortunately, her Monday class wrapped up this week so she is back down to two classes, which should be much more manageable. The even better news is that for the last 5 weeks of the semester she will only have one class.

I had a significant transition this month at work. The main client I worked with was acquired and as a result, we lost their business. I have known it was coming for most of the year, but it became official a couple of weeks ago. Losing a client is never fun. This one was particularly disappointing because they were a great client to work with and we had an exceptional team. I was fortunate because there was an opening for another client I was interested in working with. I made the transition this month and have loved the team. We get our work done and have a great time doing it. Every day we also have a shuffleboard championship. It consists of 2 or 3 rounds of shuffleboard. This week I ran off three straight wins in championship matches. This is probably the most fun team I have ever worked with. We also all share a love for Cubby's and eat lunch there nearly every other day. I sure do love my job.

We have settled in at Blake and Debbie's house. CC especially has learned to make herself at home. She routinely wanders around upstairs while everyone is home. Last weekend when it got cold we turned on the fireplace and CC was enamored by it. She loves snuggling by the fire.

We spent a lot of our free nights during the month going on walks around Daybreak Lake and Temple Square. We wanted to enjoy the nice nights before fall gives way to winter. These walks helped to pass the time as we wait for our house to begin.
