Hiking Stewart Falls and General Conference Weekend

Alison and I enjoyed a fabulous general conference weekend this year. Our weekend festivities started on Friday night when we went to see Beauty and the Beast at the Hale Center Theater. It was one of the best shows we have seen there. The production was top-notch. The costumes, puppets, staging, talent - everything was great. We have certainly enjoyed our tickets this year to HCT.

After the first session of the General Conference on Saturday, we headed south to the Alpine Loop. We have wanted to hike to Stewart falls during the fall season, ever since we snowshoed this hike a couple of years ago. It looked like the perfect weekend to go - good weather forecast, no other plans, etc. As we were driving south great black clouds loomed over our destination. As we pulled our car into the canyon it started pouring rain. We decided we might not be hiking, but at least we could drive around the Alpine Loop. As we drove up toward the parking lot the rain slowed. By the time we got out of our car, it was lightly misting. We were in luck, just in the knick of time, the storm passed.

We were glad it did because the hike was absolutely beautiful. Fall in Utah was on full display. The hiking conditions were perfect it was warm, but there was a nice cool breeze. It could not have been better. The hike is a little over 3 miles roundtrip, and there isn't too much elevation gain or loss. It was a lovely day enjoying the beauty of God's creations.

After our hike, we finished driving around the Alpine Loop. The quakies were breathtaking in their many shades of fall colors. It was a little sad when we left that beautiful loop and headed back toward Lehi. We are glad we got to see the colors of fall before they are gone.

On Sunday we woke up and watched Conference. Between sessions, Alison and I made breakfast for the family. I made another round of sourdough biscuits. All week long I made a sourdough start. This batch turned out even better than the last. It was a perfect conference breakfast.

We really enjoyed the messages of the conference. I particularly liked the themes of joy, repentance, and forgiveness. There were many wonderful messages and I am always grateful for the opportunity we have to listen to our living prophet and apostles. It was also great to spend this weekend surrounded by family. Alison and I are blessed so have to such a wonderful family who loves and supports us.
