The Calm Before the Move

We are finally at the end of the home buying process. On Friday we met with our real estate agent, Jane Copier, our sales agent, Larry Mitchell, and our superintendent, Les Mascherino for our final walkthrough. We spent a couple of hours going over every detail of our house. We have an exceptional team. It was great to walk through the house with them. We found some areas that need touch-ups, but there was nothing major that needed to be addressed. We have been very impressed with the quality of the workmanship. We can hardly wait to move in.

In many ways this weekend felt like the calm before the storm (of moving). We spent a lot of the weekend hanging out with our niece, Skylee. We went with Dan and Skylee to an Easter egg hunt put on by Academy Mortgage. When we woke up and it was so rainy we kind of wanted to cancel. We told Skylee we would go and she was super excited about it so we went. Right before the Easter egg hunt, we met our loan officer, Summer, and she asked if Skylee was our daughter (Alison was holding her). We told her no, and for good measure, Skylee told her, "Alison and Eric are part of my family" It was so cute. Fortunately, Easter eggs hunts tend to go quickly and Skylee was in the youngest age group. She lined up and her group started a few minutes after we arrived. I ran around behind her with a little pink umbrella doing my best to keep her dry. She started off slowly, but after she picked up a few eggs she got really into it and ran around filling up her easter basket. When all the eggs were picked up and I told Skylee I didn't think there were anymore she protested telling me she wanted to find more eggs. By then it was really cold so we decided to head home. On the way back Skylee had Alison open each of her Easter eggs. She was excited to tell us about what she found in each egg. She was especially excited that a few of her eggs contained quarters.

In the afternoon we took to Skylee to the Living Planet Aquarium. It was PMBA day so Alison's program got us tickets. We went to PMBA day at the aquarium with Skylee right before Alison started the program. It was appropriate to go again right before Alison completes her Master's degree. Skylee was darling as usual. We went right into the Utah exhibit and Skylee goes right up to some trout and says "those are big fish." She was also really funny when we saw a snake. She called it "a slippery snake."

We enjoyed a nice lunch and socialized with some of Alison's classmates. Skylee enjoyed coloring and collecting "pirate money" and "crystals" that were decorating the tables. After lunch, we continued through the exhibits. Skylee quickly lost interest in the aquarium. After seeing so many fish she was pretty much done. One thing we noticed was that Skylee didn't really want to deal with crowds. If there was a large group of people in front of an exhibit it didn't really matter how cool we said it was she didn't want to see it. The aquarium was pretty crowded (by the time we left the line to get in was wrapping around the outside of the building). We ran through a couple more of the exhibits before calling it. On our way out we had to go through the gift shop and Skylee asked us if she could get something. We, of course, agreed. She ended up picking a little pink stuffed turtle. She also got a pink lollipop (we told her they would have cookies at lunch because they have at every other PMBA event we have ever attended and then this one they decided to break the trend). When we were walking out I asked her what color her lollipop was and she told me that it was pinkalicious. It was so cute.

On Saturday night Dan and Kristin went on a date and we watched Skylee. We made popcorn, watched Mulan, and we all snuggled up on the couch. It was the perfect way to end a fun weekend with our niece. We love Skylee and the opportunities that we have to spend time with her.
