Puppy Days

On Saturday we took Tex with us to visit Alison's grandma, Aleene. The last time we took Tex to her house was the very first day we got him. It doesn't seem like he has grown much over the past week and a half, but seeing him standing next to Aleene's dog, Misty, it was apparent he had grown quite a bit. The realization hit me that these puppy days are going to fly by. Before we know it our little furball will be all grown up.

There are plenty of things we won't miss when he grows up. I won't miss waking up one to three times a night to take him to relieve himself. We won't miss trying to figure out what to do with him while we are at work. We tried leaving him in the garage, but he just howled for hours. We tried the crate, but we have to come home from work every few hours so that he can relieve himself. We also tried a puppy playpen, but it turns out he is an escape artist and was able to climb right out. These hardships will pass with time. They have created some funny memories - like this video of him escaping his playpen.

There are so many things we will miss when he grows up:

- Puppy snuggles
- His soft fluffy puppy fur
- The way he hops when he walks
- How excited he gets on our walks when he knows we are on our way home (he loves our home)
- How tiny (and somewhat sad) he looks when we give him a bath
- The way he tries to figure out CC
- How he will fall asleep anywhere and sleep through anything
- The joy he has as he discovers the world
- The way he will curl up on my lap when I drive
- How closely he sticks by me while I walk around the house

Yesterday we took Tex on a walk around Daybreak lake. He absolutely loved it - you could see his happiness. We stopped at least a dozen times as people wanted to pet Tex or introduce their dog to him. Everyone loves a puppy and Tex is particularly striking. He is so good with other people and dogs. He makes friends everywhere he goes.

We are going to miss these puppy days. I just want to soak up every moment and memory I can while he is still a little guy.
