June 2018

It is hard to believe that June is almost over. We have had a busy month and it seems like it has passed in the blink of an eye. June was a fine month and there were a few things we will want to remember:

Anniversary Celebrations

Alison and I celebrated 7 years of marriage on June 3. We started the celebrations the night before by seeing the Music Man at the Hale Center Theater. We then headed downtown for a nice dinner at our favorite restaurant in SLC - Valter's Osteria. Blake, Debbie, Dan, Kristin, and Skylee all joined us for dinner. We had a great time visiting and enjoying wonderful food. Alison and I stayed downtown so it was an easy walk back to our hotel after dinner. In the morning we went to attend SLC pride.

After pride, we spent some time downtown walking around temple square and reflecting on the last 7 years. It has been an amazing ride and I look forward to many more happy anniversaries to come.

SLC Pride

We stayed downtown for our anniversary and because we walked in SLC pride this year. We walked with Dealertrack. Alison and I have often wanted to attend the pride celebration. We are glad we had the opportunity this year. The support and love that was evident during the parade were truly amazing. We are big believers that everyone deserves love, support, and kindness. If more people would focus on being allies to the people around them our world would be a much better place.

So Jo Parade

Kristin and Dan had some conflicts one weekend and needed us to walk with Skylee in the South Jordan city parade. We were happy to help. Skylee was made for parades. She walked that parade route with a smile and a wave. It was super cute. Kristin and Dan spent a lot of time training for a half marathon this month. To help facilitate their early morning runs Skylee would often spend a night at our house. This gave us an opportunity to spend time with her playing at the park, hanging out with neighbors, and going to the swimming pool. We sure love spending time with Skylee.

Ancestry

I started a new job this month. I found out right before we left for China that due to financial difficulty my prior employer was undergoing layoffs. In a lot of ways, I saw the writing on the wall, but the timing was a bit of a surprise. Fortunately, Alison and I are in a  really good spot financially and the abruptness of this event did not add any stress. We enjoyed our trip to China and we were confident the job search would go quickly when we arrived home. We were in a position that even if it did not go quickly the loss of my job really did not impact us day to day. The job search went way faster than expected. Within a week of getting home from China, I received multiple offers. Ultimately, I decided to join the team at Ancestry. I am really excited about this opportunity and I think it is going to be a very good move for my career.

Enjoying Summer

We really spent some time this month enjoying summer. We have had a few weeknights where we head down to the lake after work and go paddle boarding on the lake. We love Daybreak and the fun opportunities we have living here. We also spend many summer nights outside visiting with our neighbors and playing with their kids/dogs. We have some great neighbors. We spend a lot of time out on our rocking chairs on our porch, reading or throwing the frisbee for Tex. Summer is great.

Tex loves our porch
After playing frisbee Tex loves to find some AC

CC stays inside while we play
Tex pretty much always wants to play frisbee. He carries it around until I will play with him.
