The Perfect Beach Day

This morning Alison and I decided to head to La Jolla shores. We arrived and it was packed. At first, that worried us a little bit, but we found a place to park and headed down to the beach. It was a beautiful sunny day. It was warm enough that it made you want to dive into the ocean, but not so warm that it was uncomfortable to sit on the beach. We applied sunscreen and explored the beach. A large number of people gave the beach a vibrant feel. It was a fun place to hang out.

We saw some people kayaking and thought it looked like fun. We wandered into all the kayak shops only to find we struck out. It turns out this is the busiest day of the year in San Diego and all the kayak tours were booked.

It turns out we didn’t need a kayaking adventure to stay entertained. We spent most of the day playing in the waves. The waves at La Jolla were much milder than the waves at Coronado. Many of them would roll by and lift you off your feet for a moment before setting you back down. There were a few really big ones, but not nearly like Coronado. Today the water was much warmer. We saw a sign that said the water temperature was 70 degrees. It really did feel nice. Today Alison was in the water as much as I was out there. We had a great time relaxing in the ocean.

We got out around lunch to lounge in the sun and reapply sunscreen. We wandered back over to the shops near the beach and found a good burger place for lunch. Once we ate it we were right back into the ocean. It felt so good. When it was about time to go we decided to head up to the beach to lounge and dry off. It was hard getting Alison out of the water. She wanted one more big wave. We waited for another big one and then headed to our beach towels. The tide had rolled in so our towels were getting pretty close to the water. Alison took a little nap on the beach while we dried. When it was finally time to head back we weren’t ready to go. We wish we could have stayed on that beach day forever.

We headed back to our hotel and got all cleaned up. While we were getting ready we listened to the Yankee game on the radio. It was one of the most thrilling wins of the season. The Yankees came back from down 5-1 against the Twins to win 8-5. During the course of the comeback, Arod hit three home runs.  It was awesome.

We had dinner reservations at Peohe’s Coronado. It is a Chart House restaurant. It was a really nice place. We sat out on the enclosed patio, which gave us beautiful views of the harbor and San Diego. Blake and our server recommended the sea bass so Alison tried that. She really loved it. I surprised Alison by branching out and getting the ahi tuna. It was so good. We really enjoy eating good seafood by the ocean. On our way back to our car we saw fireworks over the harbor. We got back to the hotel and hung out with Blake and Debbie on the roof before deciding to call it a night.
