The Start of Our Labor Day Adventure

It has been another busy week, which made the long weekend all the more enjoyable. On Monday we went to our last Bee's game this year. Their season officially ended on Thursday, but because we had so much to do this week we could only go to one last game. We went with Debbie, Blake, Meg, and Skylee. It was so much fun. We were initially planning to sit in some seats on the left-field side of the stadium, but Skylee could see the grass and kept saying, "grass" until we moved over onto the grass. We all visited and enjoyed the game. Skylee ran around on the grass and had tons of fun. In the middle of the game Bumble, the Bee's mascot come over to the grass and we took Skylee to meet him. She really loved it and gave him a big high five. We also took her over to the playground at the back of the stadium. She loved going down the slide. This season has been so much fun. We will probably get season tickets again next year.

The other nights this week Alison was either at school or we were busy preparing for our big trip. This year we decided to go to Zion National Park with Alison's family for Labor Day. While we were down there in May we made reservations at the Zion Ponderosa campground. We loved it so much we figured the whole family would enjoy it. We were right, it was a great place for all of us to stay. It is spacious, has great amenities, and has awesome management. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We all left at different times on Friday, but Alison and I pulled into the campground at the same time as Blake and Debbie. While we were helping them get the trailer set up Jake and Meg arrived. We were itching to have an adventure so we went with Jake, Meg, and Debbie to hike the canyon overlook trail.

Safety first!
The canyon overlook is about a mile long and it is on the east side of Zions, which was perfect because our campground was on the east side. When we arrived there were blue skies (it had been lightly raining on and off while we were setting up camp). Sure enough, as soon as we started hiking it began to rain. Since the skies were blue we found an overhang where we could wait out the rain.

It started to hail (or as Debbie liked to say "all hail broke loose") and Debbie thought she might be ready to turn around and try this hike another day. We reassured her we were almost to the end of the hike. This was a bit of a stretch, but it kept her motivated to reach the end. At the end of the hike were stunning views of zion canyon. It rained on us a few more times, but it was sporadic and didn't rain too hard. I am glad we powered through and finished the hike.

After our hike, we headed back to camp. By the time we got there Kristin, Dan, and Skylee had arrived and set up camp. Alison and I were in charge of dinner so we whipped up some potato salad and hamburgers. It was a little tricky because the rain came back a few times while we were cooking. We had to move the grill and dutch ovens to make sure they didn't get wet. For dessert we made dutch oven peach cobbler. It turned out just perfect. We ended the night sitting around the campfire eating cobbler and chatting about our upcoming adventures. It was the perfect way start to our Labor Day adventures.
