Day 9 & 10 - Goodbye Thailand

Today was our last day in Thailand. Alison and I woke up this morning and packed our bags. Then we put on our swimsuits and went for another early morning walk in the beach. I love watching the sunlight slowly envelope the beach.

We ended our walk at our favorite massage place. They had a sign indicating they didn’t open until 9am, but when we asked if we could get a massage they beckoned us over. We both got a little sunburned yesterday floating in the ocean so we requested Aloe vera massages. This massage was so refreshing. I am going to miss Thai massages so much.

After our massages we met up with Victoria and Hayden. Victoria knew another great restaurant to get breakfast. As with all of her recommendations this one was great. We had a huge spread including pancakes, acia bowls, banana toast and more. I also got a mango smoothie because they are unbelievable here.

After brunch we went back to our hotels to check out. Alison and I had a little snafu. When we got back to our hotel I could not find our key. I knew I had it in my pocket earlier and figured it must have fallen out at the restaurant. We jetted back to the restaurant and sure enough the key was on the ground right next to my seat. We made it back to the hotel and got checked out.

We had some time so we decided to get one last massage on the beach. We went back to our favorite massage place. I got another refreshing Aloe vera massage and Alison got her favorite Thai massage. These last massages were our best of the trip. These masseuses loved us and gave Alison and I a hug when we left. They wished us safe travels and told us to come back soon, but with a baby next time. We will always have fond memories of this little massage shop on the beach.

After the massage we decided to take a dip in the ocean. Hayden had some mixed feelings about the ocean because he read there were jellyfish in this area. We told him he shouldn’t worry. Unbelievably we were only in the ocean for a few minutes when he and Alison both got stung, by what we are pretty sure was a jellyfish. Fortunately, the stings seemed pretty light and neither of them experienced significant pain. They each had a red line where they were stung that burned a little bit. Alison wasn’t deterred by the sting and we spent our five last minutes floating in the ocean.

We had just enough time to grab some lunch. We were going to go to Shanti Shanti to try their burgers, but they were closed for lunch. Instead Victoria took us to Patty's secret garden restaurant. It was located on a secluded beautiful beach. We had great Thai food - fried wantons, pineapple fried rice, pad see ew, and mango smoothies. We enjoyed the food in Thailand, but we especially have loved the food in Koh Lanta.

After lunch we returned our motorbikes. Victoria arranged a transport back to the Krabi airport. They had a flight that was a little later than ours so they sat with us at our gate and chatted while we waited to board. We had so much fun visiting them and getting to know Hayden. It was a fantastic trip and we are already planning our next adventures together.

Alison and I boarded our flight and began our long journey home. We flew from Krabi to Bangkok. In Bangkok we found a lounge with showers so we could clean up and then we caught our flight to South Korea. It left Bangkok at 1am local time. We had a couple hour layover in South Korea before boarding our flight to Detroit. We flew to Detroit because Alison was able to immediate clear us for Delta One with her upgrade certificates. Having the lay flat seats was worth spending a few extra hours in the air. We could get used to this type of air travel. We had a couple hour layover in Detroit before heading to SLC.

It was such a long travel day. From the time we left Koh Lanta until we arrived at home was something like 36 hours. It was brutal, but we are glad to be home. It was such a fun trip to Thailand and Cambodia. We loved our time in both countries and would certainly consider another trip to either of these countries in the future.
