A Spectacular 4th of July Weekend

We had a wonderful and relaxing 4th of July Weekend! Eric and I had planned to be in Disneyland for the 4th and Kristin and Dan had planned to be in Chicago. Unfortunately we had to cancel our trips due to COVID, but we made lemonades out of lemons and spent the weekend in St. George. Dan's parents have a house in St. George where we could stay and it was delightful.

We ventured towards St. George around 8:30 on Wednesday night. Eric had month end close, so he was working late. Kristin and Dan also prefer to road trip later in the day so their kids sleep. We arrived in St. George around 12:30 and went right to bed. We slept in a bit on Friday morning and woke up and had breakfast sandwiches. They were delicious! After breakfast we relaxed for a bit before heading to Thunder Junction All Abilities Park. This was such a fun park for the kids. Skylee ran around in both the wet and dry areas. As a group, we spent more time in the splash pad area. Eric got fully drenched with the kids. I enjoyed staying dry in the shade. Skylee and Holly both loved it!

After the park, Eric, Skylee, and I went to Harmons to get some groceries for the weekend. It was fun to go with Skylee because she helped us pick out the food and snacks that she wanted. We then went back to the house where Dan, Kristin, and Holly were napping. Eric, Skylee, and I enjoyed popsicles on the patio and then played Uno Attack and Exploding Kittens. We then ventured over to the swimming pool for the rest of the afternoon. Eric and Skylee spent most of their time in the pool. I did get in the pool, but I also enjoyed lounging on the pool chairs catching up on some reading. Kristin, Dan, and Holly joined us in the pool and enjoyed splashing around for about an hour before heading back to the house for dinner. Dan cooked up some delicious burgers for dinner and then we turned on Hamilton. It totally blew my mind - it was so good! I already want to watch it again. Skylee sat by Eric for a good portion of the movie so he could explain what was happening to her. She was definitely thinking about it and even days later would ask questions about why Hamilton was in a duel? And why did they talk so fast? Overall - we really enjoyed Hamilton.

Saturday Morning we woke up and had a relaxing morning at the house. We made crepes for breakfast and then put on our swimsuits to head to the skimboard park. Right before we were about to leave, Bret called so we chatted with him for a little while. The skimboard park was really fun. It was a really narrow section of the Virgin River. Holly enjoyed playing in the dirt and filling up sand buckets. The rest of us enjoyed cooling off in the water. We stayed at the park for about 2 hours and then headed back to the house. We stopped by Chronic Taco and ordered a family taco kit and made tacos for lunch. They were delish!

After lunch, Dan and Holly took naps while Kristin, Eric, Skylee, and I went to the pool. The pool was an absolutely dream for such hot weather! I alternated lounging in the sun planning other vacations (that COVID hopefully won't destroy) and enjoying pool time. After the pool, we went back to the house, made dinner, and got cleaned up. For dinner Eric made spare ribs. He had wanted to do this for awhile and they turned out great. We also made corn on the cob, asparagus, and grilled pineapple. It was an excellent 4th of July meal. After dinner, we played Uno Attack and then went outside and enjoyed apple pie and ice cream while Skylee and her parents did pop its and sparklers. It was so much fun.

Around 9:30 we went to see fireworks in St. George. The fireworks show was great. Unfortunately they lit the hill on fire a few times as well during the show so we also enjoyed watching the fire fighters put out the little fires that were continuously popping up. We then drove back to the house and called it a night!

Sunday we woke up, cleaned up the house, and headed home. Eric and I stopped at the Creamery in Beaver to enjoy some lunch and ice cream. It was a great way to end a wonderful, relaxing weekend! Kristin and I both commented that our usual vacations are pretty busy, so it was nice to have a vacation where we could simply relax. Eric and I determined we need more vacations like that.
