Another Day In Glacier National Park

Blake and Debbie decided to catch the early flight home Monday morning. Alison and I drove them to the airport. Then we had to decide how we wanted to spend our last day at Glacier.

We were initially thinking about driving to the Two Medicine region if the park, but it was quite a haul. To get to that region you have to drive by the west entrance to Glacier. We kind of wanted to drive up the Going-to-the-Sun Road again. We still had a valid park pass. The only problem was that it was in Debbie’s name and technically the pass holder needed to be in the vehicle for the pass to be valid. Alison wanted to give it a shot, so we did. We figured we had at best a 50% chance of them letting us in.

It did work out. The way it is currently set up is that before the entrance there are handful of rangers who check to make sure your paperwork is in order. This way they can turn you away before you get to the entrance to the park. Alison handed the reservation, her ID, and our National Parks Pass to the ranger and he barely looked at them before waving us through. They check again at the park entrance. This time I only handed them the reservation and our National Park pass. They didn’t ask for Alison’s ID. We were in.

We got one more drive up Going-to-the-Sun Road. Today the weather was really nice. It was quite a bit cooler than the past few days. There were also some really cool looking clouds wrapping around the mountains. It was also the busiest day in the park that we experienced. Even though there were more people it wasn’t obnoxiously crowded and we still found plenty of places to pull off.

We meandered up and back down the Going-to-the-Sun Road soaking in the beauty of this National park until it was time to leave.

We headed to a nearby town and decided to grab a late lunch before our flight home. We both got buffalo burgers at the Great Bear Cafe. Then we made our way across the street to the Huckleberry Patch where Alison had a slice of huckleberry pie and I had a huckleberry milkshake. It was a sweet way to end our trip.

Then we drove to the Kalispell airport and flew home.
