The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour, Round 2

Last year in July 2021 Alison and I attended the Garth Brooks stadium tour. Midway through that concert, Garth Brooks announced, seemingly off the cuff, that he would return to Salt Lake City before he wrapped up his tour. We were somewhat skeptical whether or not it would actually happen, but true to his word he announced a concert date in June 2022. I tried to get tickets to that concert, but they were gone in a before I even had a chance. Fortunately, that high level of demand motivated Garth Brooks to add an additional concert in Salt Lake City. This time I was able to snag some tickets.

We went to the concert with Blake and Debbie. We met up at the new Harmons Neighborhood grocery in Daybreak where we got dinner. After a quick bit to eat, we caught the Trax light rail train in Daybreak and took it right to Rice Eccles stadium.

The wind this weekend was crazy. We had high winds all day Friday and into the night. I think the concert would have started late either way, but the wind made it so they had to wait to raise the stadium speakers and delayed it even more.

The wind died down and they raised the speakers. Before Garth came out a singer-songwriter named Mitch Rossell came out and played a few songs. Here is his set list - Mitch Rossell at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on June 16, 2022:

1. Seemed Like a Good Idea
2. Any Girl

Garth Brooks is the epitome of an entertainer. He feeds off the energy of the crowd. His energy is so infectious. He easily gets 50,000 people to sing along to all of his greatest hits. We danced and sang and had a great time. Some of the highlights from this concert included.

When he sang Wild Horses. He was in the middle of signing Two Pina Coladas when he noticed a girl holding a sign asking him to sing Wild Horses. So he stopped the planned production so he could sing that song for her. It was a cool moment.

I love all of the cell phone lights around the stadium when Garth Brooks sings The River. It happens at every Garth Brooks concert we have been to, and I am sure it happens every night he performs, but he without fell looks around in awe each night, as if this night was the first time.

Garth Brooks likes to say that Callin' Baton Rouge is his favorite song to play live. It is also Alison's favorite. As soon as he starts every person in that stadium is on their feet clapping and dancing. It is such a fun song to hear live.

I really enjoy his housekeeping tradition. After the main set ends Garth Brooks comes back out on stage with a guitar and looks for songs that people have written on poster boards. Those are the songs he plays for his encore. This tradition is fun because you get to hear a lot of different Garth Brooks songs and you never know what to expect.

Tonight's encore was amazing. Garth Brooks began singing the song Shallow. Halfway through the song Trisha Yearwood came out on stage and turned the song into a duet. The crowd went crazy. It was an amazing end to an amazing concert.

Getting home after a sold-out show is a bit of a rodeo. We made out way out of the stadium and fought for a spot on a crowded train. It was as packed as any train I have ever been on. We were crammed in so there was no room to move and we were all pressed together. Fortunately, after a few stops the train really emptied out and we were able to find seats and enjoy the rest of the ride in comfort. It was fun to go to this show with Blake and Debbie and see one of our favorite performers live.
