We Sold Our House!

A little more than 5 years after we moved into our home on Liffey Lane we sold it. When we decided to build our new house Alison and I discussed when we would sell our current house. Neither of us thought we would sell our house in the summer of 2022. Earlier this year we assessed whether or not we should sell and we again decided to hold. At that point, we thought we would wait until 2023 when our new house was nearly complete to sell our existing house.

In many ways, CC's death precipitated our decision to sell. We will be moving first into an apartment for a few months, and then with Blake and Debbie, while we wait for our new house to be completed. Moving a dog and a cat into an apartment felt like a lot. Not only that but moving a cat, especially CC, is traumatic. We didn't want to move her any more than we had to. Her passing also makes it easier to let go of our current house. Our house feels different without her here. There are many times when we walk into a room that we expect her to be there, but of course, she isn't there. Moving out will help ease the pain of losing our little cat.

We also weighed the future. We don't have a crystal ball, but we talked through some reasonable scenarios to get an idea of what we think might happen. Alison and I built some spreadsheets and crunched the numbers and spend a lot of time watching trends on Zillow. We also closely follow news about the housing market and the economy. The economy feels unstable and particularly hard to forecast right now. The housing market is also experiencing a shift. Much of the frenzy that occurred over the last year and early this year has slowed. Given the high level of uncertainty, we decided to sell our house now while we could still get what we wanted/needed out of our house.

It is surreal moving from our first house. While I am so excited about our new home, there are many things I will miss many things about our home on Liffey Lane:

  • Sitting together on the rocking chairs on our porch on warm, sunny days.
  • Watching the neighborhood kids play in the paseo while the adults chat on summer evenings.
  • Treats on the street with our neighbors in the alleyway behind our house.
  • Sleepovers at our house with Skylee and Anna Holly.
  • Living within walking distance of the "fun park".
  • Seeing our Yankee wall every time we drive into the garage.
  • Morning walks around this peaceful little corner of Daybreak.
  • Taking mid-day breaks from work in the middle of the day to play fetch with Tex in our paseo.

Our house on Liffey Lane was an amazing first home.
