A Foundation

10/15/2022

Our new home finally has a foundation. Over the past month, there has been a lot of progress and changes. This has made our twice daily walks past our lot more exciting. Every day we approach with interest hoping to see signs of progress. Building a home in 2022 is still difficult and takes longer than we hoped, but it feels so good for our home to actually be underway.

They dug the hole for the foundation while we were on vacation in Fiji. They started near the end of our trip and were done by the time we arrived home. Fortunately, our sales agent and family kept an eye on it and let us know when the excavation was underway.

We were excited to stop by the hole after we got home. This was the first visible progress in the construction of our new home.

Within a couple of days of finishing the excavation, they poured the footings. This gave us a better visual of the footprint of our new home and how it will lay out on our lot.

About a week later they poured the foundation walls.

Once the foundation walls were poured it was a bit of a waiting game while numerous tasks needed to be completed before they could fill in the open space around the walls. They added a waterproof coating outside the foundation walls, installed the basement window wells, and completed the underground plumbing.

Once those tasks were complete they filled in the areas around the foundation and added gravel in the garage and basement.

Next up they will be pouring the concrete slab and then our home will be ready to move onto the framing stage.
