The Not Calm Before The Move

The week or two leading up to the completion of our home was stressful and exhausting. We had too many will they, won't they finish moments. Ultimately, they made it, just barely. There were a few more open items at the end than we would have liked, but the builder will get them taken care of and we love our new home.

For better or for worse the weekend before our move was packed full of events and preparation for our move.

It started on Friday night after work. Skylee performed in West Jordan Youth Theater's production of The Little Mermaid. Skylee was in the ensemble and was a gull. Even though the role was small Skyee is a star. She looked so comfortable up on the stage. She was beaming and you could tell by looking at her that she had so much fun. It was worth sitting through all 2.5 hours of community theater to see that smile on her face. After the show, we rushed out of the theater to find her, and she was nowhere to be found - it turns out she was the only kid who decided to change her costume. In her own words, her decision to change was in the name of efficiency. We all congratulated her on the show. She told us she loves performing for the people she loves. What a sweet kid!

On Saturday Alison and I spent a good portion of the day packing for our move. We don't have a ton of stuff with us at Blake and Debbie's house so we were able to get the lion's share of the packing done this afternoon.

Saturday night we took Blake, Debbie, and Aleene to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House to thank them for graciously allowing us to live in their basement for this past year (and to celebrate Debbie's birthday since she will be in Hawaii with Blake). We all shared a fabulous meal.

While we are excited to have our own space again there will be some things we will miss about living with Blake, Debbie, and Aleene:

  • Overhearing Aleene talking to the dogs and giving them their daily treat
  • Wandering upstairs to watch baseball with Blake
  • Aleene playing piano - I would always smile when I heard her play songs such as, Speak Softly, Love; Memory; or The Impossible Dream
  • Having dinner most nights with Blake, Debbie, and Aleene
  • Debbie's exuberant good morning greetings
  • Having Skylee or Anna pop in while I am working when they are having a Nana day
On Sunday we visited our house and did a little more preparation for the move. In the afternoon we went with Kristin and her girls to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie. It was fantastic - the girls had fun. It was a little long for Anna, but she kept herself entertained by playing the aisle when she was bored, and she loved a lot of the songs. She was wearing her Lover era dress and Skylee was repping the Midnight era.

It was a good and busy weekend. Now we are ready to move.
