Happy 8th Birthday, Tex!

Eight years ago, Tex came into our lives—a wiggly, stubby-tailed bundle of energy who quickly became our best buddy and constant companion. He’s been with us through every chapter since then: the quiet ones, the chaotic ones, and now, this new one.

This year brought a big change. A little change, technically—just about eight pounds when she arrived—but one that completely reshaped our world. And Tex’s. When we brought Madeline home from the hospital, we didn’t know exactly how Tex would respond. After all, he had been our baby for so long.

Turns out, Tex knew exactly what to do.

From the moment he met her, Tex became her gentle guardian. He stays close during feedings, sniffs her head like it’s the most important job in the world, and follows her around like a loyal shadow. If she cries, he checks on her. If she naps, he settles in nearby. And when we take her out on walks in the stroller, you better believe Tex is right there beside her, proudly leading the way.

There have been some adjustments, of course. Fewer trips to the yard to play fetch with the frisbee. A bit less attention when we're juggling Mads' needs. But Tex has taken it all in stride. If anything, he’s more patient, more protective, and somehow even sweeter than before.

Watching him become a big brother has been one of the quiet joys of this past year. We hope Madeline grows up knowing what a good boy she has by her side—someone who’s loyal, gentle, and always down for a walk around the lake.

Happy birthday, Tex. You’re still our puppy. And now, you’re Madeline’s first best friend too.
