Happy Birthday to Me

We stayed in downtown SLC the night before to celebrate my birthday this year. This has become our jam. We were going to take Trax downtown, but the day got away from us and we found ourselves running late so Blake and Debbie graciously drove us to our hotel and watched Tex while we were gone - they are so great.

We needed to get downtown because we had a design appointment at Pottery Barn. Now that we have most of our furniture we were meeting with the designer to work on accessories - throw pillows, etc. It was apropos that we worked on it this particular weekend. Two years ago when we visited SLC for my birthday we spent much of the weekend discussing design elements that we wanted to incorporate in the build of our home. Last year we spent a lot of the weekend talking about furniture and we even visited Pottery Barn and looked at the table we would end up buying. We had a fabulous experience working with Pottery Barn and our designer really helped put the finishing design touches on our home.

While we were at Trolley Square we stopped by Weller Book Works. This is a pretty great bookstore in SLC. They have lots of old special edition books. It was fun to walk around and see some very interesting books. And of course we left with one book - happy birthday to me.

We went to Ruth's Chris for dinner. The first time we celebrated my birthday at Ruth's Chris was a decade ago. We have celebrated there a few times since. They are always so warm and welcoming and we love the food. It was a great way to celebrate.

On my birthday we had a slow morning and then we went to brunch at Market Street.  I guess it was technically breakfast since my birthday was on a Monday this year. Regardless it was a nice meal. They even put one candle in my eggs benedict to wish me a happy birthday.

We mosied on back home in the afternoon and went for a walk around Daybreak Lake. We ended up getting lunch at a new restaurant Mozz that specializes in sourdough pizza. It was fabulous. We will totally go back - especially since we can walk there from our house.

We drove back downtown for our evening activity. We had to drive because we picked up a few of our purchases from Pottery Barn. Then we headed to a Jazz game. I like the Jazz. I still remember the glory days when they went to the NBA finals. I was a little kid, but that was fun. The Jazz aren't very good this year. They are still trying to figure out their identity after trading away many of their stars. Tonight they were playing the Brooklyn Nets. The Jazz came out of the gate hot and led slightly after the first quarter. The Nets battled back and were ahead at the half. The Jazz kept it close in the third quarter and really ran away with it in the fourth quarter. The Jazz won 125 - 108. It was a thrilling game and a great way to celebrate my birthday.

This year was a pretty incredible birthday and I could not be more excited about what the next year will bring.
