A Festive Christmastime Adventure
On Wednesday, we dove headfirst into some holiday fun! After school, we scooped up Skylee and Anna and headed out for a little Christmas shopping adventure—our mission: to help the girls pick out gifts for their mom. This year, we decided to start at Fashion Place Mall, and let me tell you, the hunt was on.
We wandered through shop after shop, looking for those just-right gifts. Along the way, there were plenty of detours—because, of course, the girls couldn’t resist checking out all the things they love, like LEGO sets and glittery accessories. But we stayed focused, exploring everything from clothes to bags, shoes, blankets, and even kitchenware.
After a bit of hunting, we needed a snack break (because shopping is a sport, right?). The pretzel shop came to the rescue with some much-needed fuel. With our energy restored, we finally found gifts that both girls were excited about and knew their mom would love. Mission accomplished!
But the day didn’t end there. From the mall, we headed downtown for dinner at the Coffee Shop at Little America, one of our favorite cozy spots. The place was bustling, but we managed to snag a table and enjoy a delicious meal. Kristin joined us there, which made it even more special.
After dinner, we walked across the street to the Grand America for one of our favorite holiday traditions: the picture windows. This year’s theme was whimsical Yeti, complete with a scavenger hunt to find a tiny Yeti named Chuck. The kids were all in—running from window to window, giggling as they tried to spot Chuck. The windows themselves were, as always, magical and full of holiday charm.
And then came the showstopper: the giant gingerbread house. Well, technically, this year it was a gingerbread castle, and it was nothing short of spectacular. We couldn’t believe the scale—hundreds of eggs and thousands of pounds of flour went into making it! The kids were especially impressed with the little details, like the macarons lining the outside. It’s always a highlight for us, and seeing their wide-eyed excitement was priceless.
These kinds of holiday outings are some of my favorite moments. Even though Madeline is still too little to fully understand or enjoy it all, I know these traditions will become part of the fabric of her life. As she grows, I can already imagine her running alongside the other kids, wide-eyed at the gingerbread castles and hunting for Yetis in the picture windows.
There’s just something about Christmastime—these simple, joyful moments spent together—that makes it all feel so magical.
