Another Day in Disneyland

Day 2 in Disneyland was one for the books! We arrived at the park nice and early for Magic Morning. When we went to Disneyland a few years ago with my grandparents the Matterhorn was closed, so my Grandma didn't get to ride it, but she had ridden it approximately 50 years ago when she took her young children to Disneyland. She told us that she really wanted to ride the Matterhorn, so we decided to do it first. Unfortunately, the ride was slow to open on Thursday morning, so we weren't able to do it first thing and went over to Space Mountain instead. Space Mountain is one of Eric's absolute favorites, so it was fun to do it with my Mom and Grandma.

We spent the rest of Magic Morning doing rides in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland and we got breakfast burritos from the Galactic Grill. At this point the rest of the park was opening, so we headed to Frontierland. Eric and I have noticed that nearly everyone rope-drops Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and it takes a while for crowds to move into Frontierland, New Orleans Square, and Critter Country, so Eric and I often head there early in the morning to get in rides without lines. Our trick worked and we were able to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Haunted Mansion, and Splash Mountain in about 40 minutes. My grandma absolutely loved Big Thunder Mountain Railroad because it reminded her of Utah.

By this time we were able to redeem a fast pass at Space Mountain, so we rode that again and then the Matterhorn was open! We got on it and had a great time riding it and at the end, they pulled our bobsled off the track for a few minutes and so they let us ride it again immediately since we had to wait on the track. It was awesome. We rode several more rides and then it was time for lunch at the Blue Bayou. When we were preparing for this trip my Mom mentioned that she had never eaten at the restaurant inside Pirates and she wanted to try it out. We made reservations and had a wonderful lunch. Eric had lamb, I had gumbo and salmon, my Mom had jambalaya, and my grandma had a Monte Cristo Sandwich. It was all delicious. My grandma especially loved the Monte Cristo sandwich. The ambiance inside the Blue Bayou is so much fun - it's one of our favorite places to eat when we are in Disneyland.

After lunch, we decided to take it slow because we did a LOT of rides in the morning (Max Pass for the win!!). We headed down Main Street and watched Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. My grandma remembered this from when she came with her young children and she really liked it a lot. We also did the Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain again and then we did the train all around Disneyland. My grandma was beginning to get tired by this point and so she and my Mom headed back to the hotel to get some rest.

Eric and I decided to eat some of the treats for Pixar Fest. We love the treats in Disneyland! Our first stop was the bakery on Main Street and we got Pixar Ball cake pops. They were vanilla-flavored and so delicious. Disney also launched specialty churros during Pixar Fest so we got the choco churro in Frontierland - this one was our favorite. It came with a spiced chocolate dipping sauce - so delicious. Our next stop was the carrot cake churro with cream cheese/raisin dipping sauce. It was also great.

Because my Mom and Grandma went back to the hotel, Eric and I were able to double-up on fast passes, so we used our fast passes twice and did Indiana Jones, Big Thunder Mountain, and Space Mountain all twice. It was a great evening. For dinner, we ate at Rancho del Zocalo. Eric had cheese enchiladas and I had shrimp tacos, which were surprisingly very spicy.

Skylee and Blake are on their way!
We headed out to Main Street for fireworks, but they were unfortunately canceled. On our way out of the park, we stopped by the bakery on Main Street again and got a Mickey Mouse rice krispie treat with M&M's on it for Skylee. Before we came on this trip I showed Skylee pictures of some of the treats we could eat and she was so excited about the M&M rice Krispy treat, so we decided to surprise her with one. She was so excited. We let her eat a few bites that night but because we wanted her to sleep we didn't let her eat very much. My parents went to get a late dinner and so Skylee hung out in our room for a while. We got her ready for bed and then we all went to sleep to get ready for a busy day in Disneyland the next day!
