Summer Fun 2018

We has such a fun weekend this past weekend. Summertime is the best. There are so many fun summer activities to enjoy. We have spent many summer nights sitting out on the rocking chairs on our porch, playing frisbee with Tex, enjoying walks around our neighborhood or the lake, and paddleboarding. We love Daybreak and all of the activities it provides for us to enjoy.

On Friday night we went with Debbie, Blake, Aleene, Kristin, Skylee, and Dan to see Mama Mia: Here We Go Again. Debbie could not have been more excited. She loves Mama Mia. We were all excited to see it with her on opening weekend. Going into the movie no one really seemed to have high hopes that it would be a very good movie. Turns out we were surprised. It was a fun show! Debbie, Skylee, Kristin, and Alison all said they want to go see it again!

On Saturday we took Skylee to the Highland park pool in Daybreak. This was our first time at the Highland park pool. We were fans. It is a pretty big pool and was not busy at all. Skylee is a fish. She is really a pretty good swimmer. She spent a lot of her time in the deeper part of the pool floating with her pool noodle. She also loved diving for pool toys, dancing in the water, and holding her breath under the water. She swam for 90 minutes straight and would have gone even longer if we did not tell her it was time to go.

On Saturday night we went to the Days of 47 rodeo. Blake was a rodeo cowboy during high school and college so Kristin thought it would be fun if we all went to this rodeo together. She planned it all and got tickets. We had a great time. Before the rodeo, we walked around a little fair area outside the arena. Skylee got to ride a mechanical bull. She is not afraid of anything. When we were watching mutton busting, Skylee said she would like to do that, sometimes when she is not in a pretty dress. It was a great night at the rodeo. Blake told us all about rodeo culture and how each of the events works. He would watch each rider and then would say that will be about a 75 or an 84, depending on the quality of the ride, and he was pretty much always right on. Being at the rodeo together was a fun way to spend a Saturday night.

On Saturday night we were driving home from the arena. It was a very dark night. We were driving down Redwood road when out of the darkness a terrified white dog appeared. We drove past and then flipped a u-turn to see if we could help the dog. By the time we got back, the dog had crossed to the other side of the road. Blake stopped and I bailed out of the Jeep. I tried to gently coax the dog to come to me, but instead, it headed back into the road. I ran into the road after it. Most cars saw me and slowed down, but one still sped by at very fast speeds. Fortunately, the dog stopped in the median so we were not in immediate danger. I caught up with it and reached down to grab it. It immediately tried to bite me. It was so small that I could grab its back so it could not reach my hands. I quickly carried the dog out of the road. Debbie had a leash in her car. We got the leash on the dog and got it in the Jeep. Once it was in the Jeep it calmed down. We drove to a nearby parking lot. The dog only had two tags, neither of which indicated its owner. One was a pet license tag. When Alison called the number on the tag it was emergency dispatch. She explained the situation and they said they would see if an officer was available to come to pick the dog up. As we were waiting I began to inspect the dog to see if it was injured. I then noticed the dog's name, Gypsy, was embroidered into the collar along with a phone number. Alison called the number. An older gentleman answered the phone and confirmed Gypsy was his dog. The poor guy was distraught and told us he had no way to get to us. We assured him we could come to him. His house was just around the corner. He was waiting in his front yard. He tried to give Blake some money, but he refused. We were just happy we were able to help. The joy on the face of this man as he was reunited with his little dog was reward enough.
