A Park City Getaway

Due to COVID-19 our plans for Eric's birthday changed multiple times. Our original plan was to spend a few days in Vegas. However, since so much in Vegas in indoors that felt unwise so we decided to go to Florida instead. We had made reservations for everything in Florida, but with his birthday falling so close to Christmas we didn't feel like it would be wise to travel. Needless to say, we were pretty devastated when our trips kept falling apart. However, if 2020 has taught us anything, it's how to be flexible. We instead reserved a 1-bedroom suite at the Sunrise Lodge in Park City and had a wonderful get-away.

We both took Friday off work and started the day pretty slow. We slept in and then worked out and packed up. It was around 11:00 by the time we got out of our house. We dropped Tex off with my parents and headed to Immigration Canyon for brunch at Ruth's Diner. Breakfast was delicious! We left very full and headed to Park City. We were able to check in early and spent a few minutes in our hotel room. It was such an awesome room. We had a large living room connected to a very large kitchen. Our favorite feature was the fireplace. The master bedroom also had a fireplace and the entire room had 4 balconies with great views. We had a vaulted ceiling with large windows so we could see the ski lift running.

After relaxing in the room we decided to head down to the hot tub. I used to ski at the Canyons growing up and I always loved watching the steam come off the swimming pool and the hot tub on the gondola on the way to the car. When we checked in I made sure to ask how warm the pool was. Fortunately the pool was 90 degrees and the hot tub was even warmer! We changed into our swim suits and hung out in the hot tub for awhile. It was dreamy. It was really cold outside and the snow was falling, but we were warm. In fact, we got too warm and went and jumped in the pool, which also felt heavenly. After we had our fill of swimming we relaxed in the hotel room again before showering and heading to dinner.

We decided on Ruth's Chris for dinner. The food is also excellent, but this location did not have the same charm as the SLC location. That being said, they were doing a soft opening of their patio, so we enjoyed eating where there were windows open but plenty of heaters to keep the space warm. There were also festive garlands and wreaths. We immensely enjoyed dinner and then headed back to the hotel for the evening.

Saturday morning we woke up and decided to watch at Christmas movie. We turned on The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. It was a disappointing movie, but it was fun to watch it together. We enjoyed our dessert from Ruth's Chris for breakfast while watching. Before too long it was time to check out so we headed to Main Street and had brunch at The Bridge. It was delightful. We ate outside with great views of the mountains and historic main street. There were heaters to keep us plenty warm.  We walked around Main Street for a few minutes, but very few stores were open and we were cold so we headed down the canyon to our home.

It was such a great getaway to celebrate Eric. Eric is easily the kindest, most selfless person I know. He's always looking out for everyone else, so it's nice to take at least one day a year to make him feel like the most special person. Because he is.
