Fiji Day 4 - Malamala Beach Club

This morning we decided to try the other breakfast buffet. This Hilton Fiji has two breakfast buffet options. The second one, Koro, opens a little later in the morning and is for adults only. We thought we might like that better, but the selection and service weren’t quite as good, and we don’t mind kids. Tomorrow we will go back to the normal buffet.

Today we took a day trip to a nearby island to visit the Malamala beach club.

To get to the Malamala beach club we took a boat from Port Denarau. It was a large boat that ferries people to many of the islands in this area. It took about 25 minutes by boat to reach Malamala.

Malamala is beautiful. It is a 5-acre island covered in palm trees and white sandy beaches. It looks like what you might picture if you closed your eyes and envisioned an island paradise. I brought my drone to try to capture a little bit of the beauty of this place.

When Alison booked this excursion she also booked a cabana for us to use. This truly elevated the experience. We had a private cabana on the secluded side of the island, effectively giving us a private beach. We also had butler service so every 20-30 minutes a waiter came by to see if we needed any food or beverages. It was a luxurious experience.

Can't beat this view all day long

We spent the day relaxing in our cabana. When we got hot we would take a dip in the ocean. We also took a break in the middle of the day to do some water sports. These were a complimentary perk of the beach club. We took out a kayak and paddled around. This was a stark contrast to our last kayaking experience where we were kayaking among icebergs. Here were paddled in the most beautiful blue tropical waters.

After kayaking, we decided to jump off the jetty. It was like 15 to 20 feet up which made for a thrilling jump into the ocean. Alison’s scream as we plummet into the water is so great.

We spent the rest of the day at our cabana. We had an excellent lunch where we shared delectable fish tacos and pork sliders. Lunch was another highlight.

We spent as much time as we could soaking in each moment on this island. Alison and I lounged, read books, and enjoyed the serene beauty of our surroundings.

At 5:15, as the sun was dipping in the west, we caught the ferry back to Port Denarau. Today was one of the more excellent days we have experienced together.

Back at port, we stopped for a light dinner at Lulu’s. We had dumplings (delicious) and sushi (meh). Then we walked back to our hotel and spent the rest of our evening there.
