Groundbreaking

It doesn't feel like much has happened with our new home over the past few months. Progress has been slow. We have finalized all our big decisions - cabinetry, flooring, appliances, finished carpentry, and more. While it felt good to make those decisions what we really wanted was for the home-building process to get underway.

At the end of July, we received word that Daybreak had approved the plans. At that point we just needed the city of South Jordan to approve the building permit and then Parkwood could schedule the excavation. We were hoping this would happen by mid-August, but as with most things when building a house these days, it was delayed. It took until near the end of August for the building permit to be approved. Once the permit was approved Parkwood told us they planned to dig our hole on or around September 9.

We walk by our lot daily. Earlier this week we walked by and found a pleasant surprise - the lot was staked. This was a good sign they were getting ready to excavate.

Cody called us and asked if we could swing by our lot for a groundbreaking ceremony. They had golden shovels for us to use. We got to dig the first shovels full of dirt from our lot. The ground around Daybreak is quite rocky so we had to put our weight behind the shovels to get a good shovel full of dirt. We each managed to get a celebratory shovel full of dirt.

In a few days, they will dig the hole, and shortly afterward they will pour the foundation. Our home will be underway. It will still be a long while before it is done, but we are thrilled the building process has begun.
