Fiji Day 7,8,9 - Lounging in Fiji

When we planned this trip we stacked most of our activities on the early day of our trip. That was intentional. We figured if we really loved something and wanted to do it again we could repeat it later in the week. However, after completing all of our planned activities we didn’t feel like there were any we needed/wanted to do again. We did go back and forth on whether or not we should sign up for another activity, or bounce back to the Malamala beach club, but we ultimately decided against another activity. We kind of liked the idea of waking up in the morning and not having any obligations. Spending our last few days in Fiji relaxing sounded fantastic. So we spent our last three days at the resort. It was 100% the right decision. We spent the majority of these three days were spent lounging by the pool/beach.

We enjoyed our massages so much earlier in the week that we booked more massages on Friday. This time instead of a couple's massage we went with the promotional package - a 30-minute massage and a 30-minute facial treatment. Alison was surprised that I would go for a facial treatment, but I assured her I was open to most any spa treatment. Once again the treatment was fantastic - Alison and I fell asleep near the end of the facial treatment. It was so relaxing.

The hotel has many activities. One we participated in was a Fijian cooking class where we learned to make Kokoda. The cooking class description wasn’t the most accurate. We mostly watched the activity coordinator mix together a bunch of prepared ingredients and then we got to sample the Kokoda. Eating the finished product is the best part of any cooking class.

One morning I woke up early and headed out to the beach to fly my drone. I saw a beautiful sunrise and enjoyed seeing the resort from the air. I also flew the drone out to a nearby island that was about a mile away.

Another activity Alison enjoyed was water aerobics. She thought it was fun. It looked fun. They played some dance music and the activity coordinators demonstrated the moves.

The resort advertised that they had paddle boards and kayaks available for use by guests. This was a little disingenuous because they really had one paddleboard. Alison and I made the best of it and took turns one morning taking the SUP out on the ocean. The waves were gentle. We love paddleboarding so it was fun.

We spent the remainder of the three days lounging by the pools/beach, sampling ice cream, reading books, eating delicious food, and watching beautiful sunsets. All of these activities made for a relaxing and delightful final few days in Fiji.

Our last sunset in Fiji

We pretty much had an entire bonus day on Sunday. Fortunately, the hotel had a private shower room right off the lobby. This meant we could spend the entire day lounging at the pool and take a shower before our flight. Alison hates taking long flights without showering, and I don't blame her. The flights were mostly uneventful. Because we crossed the international date line we left Fiji at 9pm on Sunday night and arrived home at 9pm on Sunday night. Flying in this direction has its benefits.

I think we will look back fondly at our memories from Fiji. This trip came at the ideal time for us. After a long and hectic summer, it is nice to have a vacation that was uber relaxing, romantic and went off without a hitch. I knew we would enjoy Fiji, but I didn't realize how much we would love it. Between the unbelievable hospitality, pleasant weather, excellent diving, beautiful islands, and relaxing vibe this place exceeded all of my expectations. We will definitely be visiting this island paradise again in the future.
