Mad's Sixth Day: Cozy

Once again, our little Mads gave us a pretty decent night of sleep. We were up with her a couple of times, but overall, we all managed to get a good amount of rest, which always feels like a small victory these days!

We kicked off the day with our usual walk around the island. Mads was extra cute today—she seemed to really enjoy it, more so than usual. Maybe it’s the fresh air or the little bit of sunshine, but she seemed perfectly content, all bundled up in the stroller. It’s one of those simple routines that I’ve come to love. Tex and I are always happy to get out of the house, and it feels good to share this moment with our baby girl. There’s something peaceful about being out by the water, just the three of us.

Today was one of those cozy, slow-paced days where everything felt warm and relaxed. Last night, we dressed Mads in the most adorable pink pajamas—so soft and sweet—but I couldn’t help but feel a little sad because she’s growing so fast. These pajamas barely fit her anymore, and she might only get to wear them this once. It’s crazy how quickly she’s outgrowing things! She seemed so cozy in them, though, so we just let her snuggle in them for most of the day. Honestly, she spent the morning and part of the afternoon doing the classic newborn routine: sleeping and eating. And it was beyond adorable watching her do it.

We did have a bit of a wardrobe change mid-day, though, thanks to a little “situation.” I was trying to check if her diaper was wet but wasn’t totally sure, so I took it off to check. Turns out, it wasn’t wet at all—until she decided to pee right then and there, soaking her cute pink jammies in the process! Ah, the joys of parenting. So, out of the pink and into a super cute purple outfit. Even after the quick change, Mads wanted to stick with the theme of the day and stay cozy, which was fine by us.

Later on, Jake and Meg, who are family, stopped by and brought dinner, which was such a nice treat. They brought over one of our favorite meals—salmon, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Jake is an expert at cooking salmon, and it was fresh and delicious. We all sat down to eat together, and it was so nice to have company. It’s these little moments of normalcy, like sharing a meal with family, that feel extra special these days. And, oh man, Meg made the best chocolate chip cookies to top it all off. They were the perfect mix of crispy and gooey—just what we needed to finish the night.

In the evening, Mads was still in full chill mode, so I decided to use the nursery rocker with her for the first time. It was a special moment. We sat together, just the two of us, and I told her all about the nursery—how we designed it with her in mind and why we chose the safari theme. It felt like a little bonding moment, even though I know she’s too young to understand the words right now. But one day, she will. I want her to grow up hearing all the dreams we have for her, and even better, living them.

It was a quiet, calm day—a welcome pause in the middle of all the changes. Mads is growing so fast, and days like this, where everything feels soft and slow, are exactly what we need sometimes.
