Our Disneyland Adventure - Day 3

Saturday was our best morning at Disneyland. We got Magic Morning with our park passes and it was the best. We were in Disneyland at 7 am. We went right over to Fantasyland to ride the Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland ride. These rides are both fun, but they always have such long lines. Alison especially loves Peter Pan because that was her favorite ride when she was little. During Magic Morning the lines to these rides were so short and the park wasn't crowded.

After riding a couple of Fantasyland rides we ran over to Space Mountain. We could basically walk on the ride so we rode it twice. It is such a fun ride. By the time we finished our second ride it was 8am and we got our first fast pass. The rest of the park also opened and we headed over to Indiana Jones. We rode that ride a couple of times and then we could get another fast pass. We then headed over to Splash Mountain and rode it a couple of times. The park was starting to get busy, but we had enough fast passes we just kept running all over the park riding rides. We were able to go until 1pm without standing in line for more than 15 minutes. Getting to the park early was so worth it. In the first 4 hours, we rode 12 rides - it was awesome.

By 1pm we were getting tired from all our running around the park and decided to get some lunch. Last time we were in Disneyland we saw lots of people eating turkey legs. This time we decided to give it a try. We got our turkey legs and they were huge! I enjoyed my turkey leg, but it was kind of messy and it was a lot of the same taste. Alison didn't like it at all. She was amazed at how messy it was. She even commented she has never eaten a meal before which made her feel like she needed to take a shower afterward. She is never going to eat one of those again.

After lunch, we went over to the Mark Twain Riverboat. I read that you could drive it so I asked one of the cast members. They let us know there was a group ahead of us but if we waited they could get us on the second go-round. We waited over by the dock and it was quite pleasant (at this point it was a little hot). When our turn came Captain Frank came and got us. He took us up to the cabin. Alison signed the logbook. Then we got to drive the boat (really it is on a track so we turned the big wheel, rang the bell, and blew the whistle). It was a lot of fun. We also talked a lot with Frank. He told us about working at the park and gave us a little history lesson. We learned the riverboat was a day 1 attraction, and that next year it will be 60 years old (Disneyland celebrates 60 years next July). He also told us about Walt celebrating his 30th anniversary on the Mark Twain. It circled the Rivers of America all night and there were so many people on board the boat took on water. When we finished the loop around the Rivers of America, Frank gave us each a certificate authorizing us to drive the Mark Twain (with cast member assistance of course). Driving the riverboat was one of my favorite things we did at Disneyland.

Since we rode so many rides early on in the day we took the rest of the day a little slower, and we did some of the other things we wanted to do. We went over to ToonTown. I always like ToonTown because it looks like a cartoon brought to life.

Our favorite thing in ToonTown is meeting the characters. We went right over to Mickey's house and met with the Mouse. Standing in line to meet Mickey isn't so bad because it is all indoors and they play old cartoon clips. They only let a few people in to see Mickey at a time. That way everyone gets plenty of time with Mickey. When it was our turn Mickey gave Alison a big hug, which made her really happy. Mickey shook my hand and then started clapping because I was wearing my "just graduated" button. It was pretty funny.

After ToonTown we went over and got dole whips, which were great on such a hot day. We went over to the Tiki Room, and we rode a few more rides in Fantasyland. We also finished walking along Main street. We went over and looked at the Firehouse. Walt Disney had an apartment above the Firehouse. Guests at the park could tell if he stayed there because the light in the window would be turned on. When Walt Disney passed away they left the light on in his memory, and it is still on today.

We also rode on the Disneyland train. I had never ridden on it before. It was fun to go around the park. The best part was when we went through Splash Mountain and could hear the characters singing zip-a-dee-doo-dah. It was also fun to ride behind It's a Small World and wave at all the people in line.

That night we got some dinner at the French Market and then found a spot to watch Fantasmic. It was hard to find a spot because we don't like to spend too much time sitting there. We found a spot, but the people nearby were kind of annoying. Alison really loves Fantasmic and we did end up enjoying the show. Fantasmic is the longest-running show in Disneyland and has been going strong for 22 years. It is a lot of fun with all the characters and special effects. Disneyland sure knows how to put on a show.

Saturday was a great day at the happiest place on Earth.
