An "Amazing" Neighborhood

Every year in May a couple of our neighbors put together an Amazing Race. This event is inspired by the  adventure reality game show The Amazing Race. We were out of town in previous years and a little sad we missed this event. This year when we realized we would be around we signed right up.

Before the race begins the participants gather at the host couples house. Everyone brings appetizers or desserts and we all eat and visit. Then everyone is split into teams of 5 participants. The drivers were determined ahead of time and are the de facto team captain. Spouses are purposely split onto different teams so everyone meets more people.

Once the teams are assigned they give us the boundaries of the race. It was maybe 5-10 square miles. In previous years teams ranged far afield. The boundaries help keep people on track. Teams were then tasked with deducing clues. The clues led to 10 locations. At each location the team would then have to find the next hidden clue. Clues came in all shapes and sizes from crossword puzzles to math problems resulting in GPS coordinates to trivia. It took a good two hours to complete the race.

Alison's team came in middle of the pack and my team came in second to last. It was an incredibly fun evening. We met new people and spent time with old friends. It is so much work for our neighbors to put together this elaborate event, but we are so grateful that they did.
