Bret and Calvin Visit Utah

This past week Bret and Calvin visited Utah. It was a momentous occasion because this is the first time we met Calvin. He is great - we enjoyed getting to know him. It was plainly evident he and Bret love each other very much and we are thrilled for them both.

On Friday night we had a barbecue at Blake and Debbie's house. This was the first time we shared a meal at the dining room table since they moved in, which is fitting because it was the first time we have all been in their house together. The first of many. Alison and I contributed dessert. We made some Salt and Straw ice cream. This time we experimented with salted malted cookie dough. It was fabulous. We had a wonderful evening visiting, quizzing Calvin, and playing card games.

Saturday we met Snowbird. We took the tram to the top of Hidden Peak. We wanted to give Calvin the Utah experience and figured getting up in the mountains is important. We spent a while at the top visiting and enjoying the views/wildflowers. Then we hiked down the tunnel and took the chairlift down. It is currently Oktoberfest at Snowbird. We enjoyed some Bavarian cuisine and entertainment (which was much too loud).

We all met up in downtown SLC for dinner at Squatters. It was a good meal with the entire family. After dinner, Alison and I went exploring downtown SLC with Bret and Calvin. We ended up attending the early show at Keys on Main. It was a lot of fun. They ended up playing a couple of requests from our table. We enjoyed having a little more time with Bret and Calvin before they headed home to Philadelphia.

Meeting Calvin was great. We only wished we had a little more time - it was a quick trip. Fortunately, they will be back in a few months for the holidays. We can't wait.
