You Dim Sum, You Lose Sum

Last night Alison and I attended a Dim Sum Harmons cooking class. We love the Harmons cooking school and this class was no exception.

We didn't realize how stressful our lives had become until we had finished moving into the apartment. At that point, we realized we had a moment to breathe. There weren't many things on our to-do list screaming for our attention. Since we suddenly had much more free time we wanted to do something fun. We brainstormed ideas and saw the Dim Sum class on the upcoming Friday had two open seats. We like Dim Sum and cooking classes so we signed up.

This class was at the Station Park Harmons in Farmington. It was a bit of a drive for us but ultimately is not that much further than going to Lehi or most of the other locations. We actually left way too early and arrived like 45 minutes before the class started. Fortunately, the Station Park area is full of interesting stores so we did some window shopping while we waited.

Before we started our Chefs - Chef Jake & Chef Pete, prepared some delicious fried rice and chicken wings for us to enjoy. Then we dove right into our lesson. I really liked Chef Jake & Chef Pete. You could see in how they navigated the kitchen that they are experienced Chefs. They passed along a few useful skills too during their lesson. Probably the most valuable of which was the knife tips and tricks that they shared.

We made three dishes - har gow (shrimp dumplings), char siu pork buns, and cong yu bing (scallion pancakes). All three were delicious. Alison and I were least excited about the scallion pancake, but we were both pleasantly surprised - it was tasty.

We were paired with a nice older couple from Farmington. We worked great with them. We efficiently split all of the preparation and worked together so we were easily the first group to complete all three dishes. Each dish turned out well. We also learned and adapted along the way. Such as realizing that adding more steam made the second batch of our dumplings even more delicious.

This class was a fun Friday date night activity and I forsee some Dim Sum dinners in our future.
